It was smaller in terms of participation, with only 120 attending this year, but it was just as enjoyable and informative. I was happy to see many new faces this year, which could be a clear sign that many more are now using WordPress in the Philippines.

We did broadcast the whole event via Ustream.tv, so I’m sure many more were able to tune in. Speaking of which, we will be coming out with a video of WordCamp-PH’09 very soon, courtesy of the very generous Buddy Gancenia.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all who have contributed their time and energy to see this event through. First of all, the members of my organizing team: MiGs™ Hipolito, Winston Almendras, Chattee Lara, Jaime Haw, Lyle Santos and Brendel Balaga, as well as our Manila-based coordinators, Regnard Raquedan and Juned Sonido. The on-site volunteers also deserve our deepest gratitude for their selfless contribution: Earth del Mundo (blog upcoming!), Ron del Rosario, Elcie Cunanan & EJ Bautista, Jonel Uy and Aames Aguas (no link because he prefers to keep his blog private… for now).

Since WordCamp here is being organized by the Mindanao Bloggers Community, I was very pleased to see more campers from the South this year, especially from Cagayan de Oro City, led by ChiQ Montes. Cagayan de Oro and the CDO Bloggers will be the host of the 3rd Mindanao Bloggers Summit, to be held this 24 October 2009.

Next year, the plan is to have a new format for WordCamp Philippines, as well as meatier, more substantial talks. And based on campers’ feedback, there will be two tracks: one for power users & developers, and one for beginners. Plus, a developers-only session with WordPress experts is already in the works for WordCamp Philippines 2010.
